Village

Kouramades is in the middle of Corfu island. The name of the village comes from the fruits of the “kouramo” plant, combined with the ending “des”, which is found in many other villages of Corfu, such as Sinarades.

The village is surrounded by small hill tops choked with ancient olive groves. The eyes rest in front of lush green village gardens, covered by the shade of palm trees and the soft shades of bougainvillea. Everywhere you look, you discover beauties. You feel like you are invited in a continues celebration of life organised by Corfiot tradition and nature.

Old aristocratic houses, ancient churches and small picturesque alleys leading to the central square of Kouramades, also known as “Foros”, where for decades residents’ gatherings, celebrations and events have taken place. Whoever finds himself in the local festives is blessed. Religious parades, traditional customs are in a perfect match with the surrounding nature and the locals’ cheerful vibes.

Although we do not know with certainty the time period of the village establishment, the ancient finds show us that the area was continuously inhabited since ancient times.
